I don’t have all the answers, I never said I did….. I am a creative thinker and as a result I see problems differently, while some see problems on a paper I often visualize them and use basic logic.

If you look at many of my post you will notice some commonalities I share knowledge that I have found or obtained as well as my thoughts and perspectives, but one thing I almost always do is ASK QUESTIONS. I ask questions because I would like to see and understand how others think and how they look at things. β€ͺ#‎iLikeToLearn‬ (from others)

Once in a while I suggest you turn down the volume and listen to your heart beat, listen to your soul…. Listen to silence and then perhaps you will hear the call of our #Ancestors 😊

I wonder how many people that have done the #IceBucketChallange #1.) knew that as part of the Challange your supposed to make a donation to the ALS Association? #2.) know what ALS is? #3.) have also donated money to an organization that does #Diabetes or #SickleCellDisease research or treatment and care?

I know some of you are saying to yourself there he goes making it a race issue again, please forgive me for thinking that rather than depending on others to fund much needed research that will support the black community, we should be supporting said research since it seems so many of us are in the (do the challange) giving $$$ mood.

Once I looked up the statistics and after speaking to a few people who did the ice bucket challange and had no idea what ALS was I felt I should shed some light on the facts…..

According to the ALS CARE Database, 60% of the people with ALS in the Database are men and 93% of patients in the Database are Caucasian.

#Diabetes is 60% more common in #BlackAmericans than in white Americans. Blacks are up to 2.5 times more likely to suffer a limb #amputation and up to 5.6 times more likely to suffer #KidneyDisease than other people with diabetes.

#SickleCellDisease (SCD) affects millions of people throughout the world and is particularly common among those whose ancestors came from sub-Saharan Africa. .

Today in America over 5 million people have some form of Sickle cell Disease, it is estimated that SCD affects 1 in 12 Blacks or African Americans. In Nigeria, Over 200,000 children are born annually with the disease. In Canada, Sickle Cell Awareness Group of Ontario conducted a study which showed that 32 out of 40 African-Canadian carry the traits.

#AmIARacist because I first think of my people, community and how my daughters future will be impacted by decisions made today before I think think about the impact on everyone else?

#FYI #OxfordDictionaries.com definiens #Racism as:

 (1) The belief that all members of each race possess characteristics, abilities, or qualities specific to that race, especially so as to distinguish it as #inferior or #superior to another race or races

(1.1) #Prejudice, #discrimination, or #antagonism directed against someone of a different #race based on the belief that one’s own race is superior

If nominated for the ALS / #IceBucketChallenge would it be #rude, #wrong or #insensitive to accept the challenge and donate the money to a different cause or charity?

I ask you to please understand that I am not trying to throw shade at the ALS Association, anyone who has ALS or anyone who has partaken in the challenge.

I thought long and hard about posting this question, but being that I like to challange the way people think I decided I would ask and expect to get some negative feedback, that’s cool.

Please understand that I’m not against donating and fundraising, in fact I have for year and still currently donate money to two charities on a monthly basis and I didn’t do it because it was cool or a trend, I did it because I could afford to and I believe in the causes as a result of the first hand impact they had on me and my family.

The “Ice Bucket Challenge” has swept North American social media and has translated into millions of dollars in new donations to battle the disease and has also raised awareness amongst (young) people.

The ALS Association said Monday it has received $15.6 million in donations since July 29 compared to the $1.8 million donated during the same period last year.

😳 $15.6 million dollars in less than a month, imagine what that could do for your favourite charity, organization, community or city…πŸ’πŸ’πŸ’

**Again I don’t mean any disrespect to the ALS Association, anyone who has ALS or anyone who has partaken in the challenge, in fact I think that it is amazing that people are getting more involved and putting their money where their “Likes” are (meh made sense when I started to type it).

The sad reality of many black parents. You would think in 2014 these conversations would happen less and less when in fact the sad reality is they are happening more and more πŸ˜₯

It’s crazy to know that this is #America and what it looks like in #Ferguson on a nightly basis. Modern day #CivilRightsMovement #CivilRightsStruggle. My prayers and thoughts are with those living this reality and challenging the system that’s caused and condoning this.

We have a great instructor who spent the morning teaching and reminding us about the ABCs of #CPR: Airway, Breathing, and Circulation. This acronym is used to help you remember the steps to take when performing CPR. We also learned about how and when to use a #defibrillator.

These new dolls remind me of the robots from #iRobots, kinda creepy, kept wondering what I would do if their eyes turned red 🚨 πŸ˜†

It’s about that time to renew my #FirstAid & #CPR…. As a social worker and #YMCA employee this is a must have. Two days of training. #KnowledgeIsPower this kind of knowledge literally saves lives.
